Blog #7-Video

Our group came up with something simple, like making cookies. Since all of us are in corporate training we won't get to use this new tool unless it was in our personal lives. I know I have been working with Bill in the computer and he has been helping me edit my step show video and that has been rough (just like photoshop!). I have a lot of different versions that start in different places and end in different places. I finally have the correct version and all we have to do is put our taped intro (Thanks Eric!!) in front of the previously shot footage and we have a video. I may actually get to use this for shows that we may enter that will require us to have taped footaged.

Blog #6-Creating your video

The process of creating this video is to me like the process of learning photoshop. Since this is new for me I feel like a total idot! Lucky I have people in my group who are very laid back. The people in my group are Eric and Cindy. They are both in the same program as myself (Corporate Training). I suggested to them that we take a video that was shot of me in a step show performance this past June and add an intro to the front to introduce the show. I am very thankful for Bill (computer tech) for helping me learn some of the trick of the trade.
Eric, Cindy and myself are working very well together. We all have three class together this quarter and some from last quarter. So I am luck that they asked me to be in the group.
Unfortunately, since the snow has the school shut down for a couple of days and my God son about to be born, time is of the essence. I still need to find time to finish the editing and shoot the intro with my group members.

Blog #5-Contemporary literacy and learning

I think that graphic design and page layout plays a big role in learning. Some adult learners may be visual learners. They may see the pictures next to a story and get the jist of what the story is about from looking at the pictures. You as the creator can tell a story by using only pictures. Children disfuse stories by the way a book is constructed. When I was a pre-school teacher I would have my children read to me and the other students in the class. Even thought it was obvious that they did not know what the words were but they felt as thought they did because they were looking at the pictures and telling the story.
When I think of constructing a newletter or graphic homework assignment, I think of what items are similar and I group them together because they are relivant to each other. I think once I am fluent in photoshop, I will have a better handle on putting designs together instead of cutting and pasting all the time.

Blog #4-Newsletters

I am excited to learn how to do newsletters with photoshop. I have had some experience with newsletters but not in conjuction with photoshop. What I mainly do is type the information I need and then do a cut and paste (physically with scissors and glue) and then run the amount of copies I need. I know learning to do my regular newsletters or announcements with photoshop will cut the production in half. I will have everything at my finger tips. I will need a little help with croping and making the words fit with the picture because not all the images are going to go from left to right. This way makes the finish product look much cleaner and visually appealing because you can google different clip art and insert.
I must say that I am starting to some what understand photoshop, some. It is not as bad as the first day/project. I am glad that Fawn is patient enough to explain things that I don't understand.

Blog #3-Photoshop editing

Of course, I am still having trouble with photoshop. I am still not able to get my projects done at home because the program will not install correctly on my computer. So I am having to send myself pictures via email and do some handy work at the computer lab.
I don't know if I will be using photoshop professionally. I work for the Department of Transportation and they do all of their image work in a specific office. If there is a flyer that needs to be put together, they have a specific office that handles that. The only way I can see me using photoshop is for my sorority for flyers or with the high school that I volunteer at. I am going to try some editing for the Dublin Scioto because in about two and a half months they are going to be performing in a talent show (I am putting together their routine) and I want to have a group picture of the steppers on the flyer.

Blog #2-Photshop Nightmare

I am having the worst trouble figuring out how to use photoshop. I did as I was instructed and everything was fine when I was in the computer lab. But as soon as I took the file home and downloaded it to my computer it did not want to work for me. I am kind of glad that I am taking this course because againg I am using programs that I would never use and now I am getting some exposure to them. Even thought I won't be an expert at the end of the quarter (LOL)!! It is just frustrating!
For my images I choose my nephew Kalen. I think that he looks like a chocolate teddy bear so I put his head on the teddy bears body. I did not fit perfectly because in his picture he had on a jacket and I could not crop the collar out. But if you had not seen his picture before you would think that it belong there.
My second image I used the beach as the background and I put a pair of legs and a whale tale on the shore to make it seem like they were washed in by the waves. I also put some comments.
My last image was that of a lake with a forest in the background but I put a UFO in the sky saying "take me to your leader". All of my images were not that clean and I am still learning how to make them neat but it is hard when the photoshop program does not work at home and I have to sit in the computer lab for hours.
But I got them done!!!! Hopefully they look ok.
